On this Memorial Day, The NaplesRealEstate.com Team would like invite you to join us as we honor the men and women who have given their lives so selflessly over many generations to allow us to live in a country committed to freedom. It is our deepest prayer that we live a life that is worthy of this sacrifice.
During this weekend where so many people begin their summer celebrations with a picnic, a family reunion or backyard barbecue, I can only hope that you will all take a moment in silence to honor those who have given their lives so that you can live a life pursuing happiness and free choices.
We also want to send out a special prayer of gratitude to those who stand guard today. Wherever you are in the world, please come home soon, safe and sound.

Did you know that Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day? General John Logan proclaimed it as a day to be set aside as a day of remembrance for those who had died in our nation’s service. On May 30th, 1868 flowers were placed on the graves of both the Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington Cemetery. The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York. Another tidbit of Memorial Day history refers to a poet named Moina Michael who conceived the idea of wearing red poppies on Memorial Day to honor those who died in service. I can remember when I was a little girl my Dad sold red poppies…all the money went to benefit servicemen in need. It was my father who taught me to love my country, and for that I will always be grateful to him. Who else remembers wearing red poppies on Memorial Day?
Have a safe day my friends, but don’t forget to pray for peace and an end to conflict around the world…give thanks for our freedom and ask for comfort for those who have lost loved ones in defense of these freedoms. Amen
